Disney on Hollywood Boulevard

When you’re a huge Disney fan, you have to make sure to visit the other touristy Disney spots outside of the parks. in 2016 we visited Los Angeles and stayed at a hotel walking distance to Hollywood Boulevard. What is there to see? Let’s look!

The El Capitan Theatre is famous for hosting all of the Disney film premieres, and also shows Disney classics each week (as you can see Hercules was playing while we were there). It’s located right next to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Hollywood Boulevard, right in the heart of the tourist area.

We took a tour of theater, and while it was a convoluted process of actually getting in for the tour – it involved having to call the Walt Disney Company in Florida and then they called the theater to tell them there were people waiting outside for the tour – it turned out better than we could have expected. Our cast member tour guide seemed flustered by us at first, but he ended up being a really awesome guide and Gary and I got a personal tour!

We got to watch a private performance of the curtain show.

And also go up on stage to look close-up at their famous Wurlitzer organ.

Complete with a hidden Stitch!

We also toured the Sherman Brothers Star Dressing Room.

And found a hidden Mickey that not too many people get to see.

You can find lots of photo memorabilia from the various movie premieres over the years in the hallways Our guide took time to tell us about a few memorable ones.

Our tour was great, and I highly recommend it, especially if you are into Disney and Hollywood history.

After the tour, head right over to the Disney Studio Store & Ghiradelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop. We actually stopped here a few times over our 3 days in Hollywood. You always get a free chocolate just for coming in, so why not?

There is a somewhat small selection of Disney souvenirs here, but the Soda Fountain is pretty famous for having exclusive Disney pins. We did buy a few, of course.

And we had to split a sudae.

Further down the street you’ll recognize this building if you’ve been to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.

This is the world famous TCL (Grauman’s) Chinese Theatre, with the replica being the centerpiece of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There are tours available here as well, but we did not do this one. (You are also steps away from the Kodak/Dolby Theatre, home to the Academy Awards, as well.)

(Before you visit here you have to watch the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy and Ethel steal John Wayne’s footprints from outside of the theater. Such a classic.)

Star Wars is part of the Disney family, so here is another Disney reference.

Of course you have to find all of the Disney stars on the Walk of Fame as well. Here are two you will see:

We also visited other Disney sites in Los Angeles (including Walt Disney’s grave at Forest Lawn Memorial Park), but this is just what we stumbled upon on Hollywood Boulevard. I absolutely loved Los Angeles and cannot wait to go back to visit, and of course go back to Disneyland! This was one of my most favorite vacations.
