Spice Road Table Dinner Review
We’re still talking about food on the blog today. 😉 Gary and I recently got to have an early dinner at Spice Road Table as part of the Candlelight Processional dining package. (To read about the Candlelight Processional show see this post.)
Spice Road Table is a somewhat new-ish restaurant located in the Morocco Pavilion at Walt Disney World’s Epcot. This part of World Showcase is home to 3 restaurants. In addition to Spice Road Table, there is another table service restaurant called Restaurant Marrakesh (which has belly dancing entertainment that Gary is especially interested in) and a quick service restaurant called Tangierine Cafe.
We chose Spice Road Table for one reason, really: it was one of the cheapest meal options (that wasn’t breakfast) for the Candlelight Processional dining package. Breakfast is the cheapest if paying out of pocket, but we weren’t interested. If you are the dining plan, the Candlelight Processional dining package is 2 table service credits. For $50 each we received a non-alcoholic drink, appetizer, entree, dessert, and guaranteed seating at one of the Candlelight Processional shows that evening.
This is the outside of Spice Road Table, and I will admit here that I had no idea there was indoor seating for this restaurant. I thought the entire seating area was the outdoor area (to the left in the first photo, and close up in the second). I went to the podium to check in to the outdoor seating, and the hostess sent me to the doorway. Well, I learned something. 😉
You are greeted by a bar upon arrival. We didn’t order anything here, but I would have liked to!
On our way to our table I noticed the restaurant was mostly empty. Spice Road Table isn’t a very sought after ADR (advanced dining reservation in Disney lingo) for most people. At night the outdoor seating is popular for Illuminations viewing. But nobody should have a problem getting a reservation here.
For our appetizers we ordered the Rice Stuffed Grape Leaves and Brie Fondue.
We agreed both were excellent. Our server also brought us out more toasts when he noticed we had brie left. The winner for me was the stuffed grape leaves. (Although I didn’t actually eat any of these. I let Gary have those since a few grape leaves were included with my entree.)
So what was my entree? I got the Mediterranean Vegetable Platter. Probably not the most cost effective for the Candlelight Processional dining package, but it was the one I wanted.
Included with this, besides a few of the rice stuffed grape leaves, were Harissa hummus fries, couscous salad, and babaganoush with pita bread.
I absolutely loved this. Those hummus fries were pretty darn awesome, and now I need to figure out how to make those myself. The couscous had so much flavor. And that little dipping sauce I used for the hummus fries was excellent as well.
Gary got the NY Strip Steak with Rosemary Potatoes and Green Beans.
Gary said he was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I have to echo that statement about my meal and my impression of Spice Road Table in general.
But wait.. there’s dessert. We both chose the Chocolate Pyramid.
It had a slightly crunchy coating and was soft in the middle. Chocolate cake and ice cream. How could I not have loved it?
After our meal we were handed our Candlelight Processional tickets, which turned out to be stickers to put on our shirts. We were warned not to lose them as we couldn’t get them replaced if we did. I’m proud to report that we held on to those and made it safely to the front row for the Candlelight Processional.
This may have been my favorite meal on this Disney trip. (Gary has a love affair with the Create-Your-Own-Pasta station at Port Orleans Riverside, so that probably wins for him.) I would highly recommend Spice Road Table for something out of the ordinary on your next Walt Disney World vacation.
We may try Restaurant Marrakesh soon. We have to check out that belly dancer after all.
